Investigating the embankment of the West London Railway

This physical barrier separates Wormwood Scrubs from Little Wormwood Scrubs.

Although the railway opened in 1844, it appears that it wasn't an an embankment. There were accidents when it crossed the GWR near the current location of Mitre Bridge and that it was in a tunnel under the canal:

The embankment was in use after 1860.
